ACPD: Juvenile pepper-sprayed bystander during dispute at local high school

Police arrested a teen after he allegedly pepper-sprayed a bystander during a dispute at Yorktown High School last Thursday (May 21).

Officers were dispatched to the school at 5200 Yorktown Blvd shortly after 3:30 p.m. A teen boy and a girl became involved in a verbal dispute on school property, during which the boy discharged pepper spray and struck another girl, a bystander, according to Arlington County police.

The victim sustained minor injuries consistent with pepper spray exposure but did not require medics. Officers took the suspect into custody on scene, and petitions were obtained against him for malicious wounding by caustic substance.

Yorktown High School has been the site of multiple notable incidents in recent years, including a bomb threat arrest last fall and a serious assault investigation in March 2024.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING BY CAUSTIC SUBSTANCE, 2026-05210172, 5200 block of Yorktown Boulevard. At approximately 3:32 p.m. on May 21, police were dispatched to Yorktown High School for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, it was determined the juvenile male suspect, and a juvenile female witness were on school property when they became involved in a verbal dispute during which the suspect discharged pepper spray, spraying the juvenile female victim, who was a bystander. The victim sustained minor injuries consistent with pepper spray exposure and did not require medics. Responding officers took the suspect into custody on scene. Petitions were obtained for the juvenile suspect for Malicious Wounding By Caustic Substance.

Separately, police arrested a man after he was allegedly seen removing items from the balcony of a Crystal City apartment building.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on the 500 block of 15th Street S. shortly after 7 p.m. on May 21, according to a separate crime report. The suspect was located at the scene and taken into custody, after which police recovered credit cards, mail and personal items not belonging to him, according to ACPD.

A 39-year-old D.C. man was charged with unlawful entry, petit larceny, mail theft and credit card theft.

UNLAWFUL ENTRY, 2026-05210226, 500 block of 15th Street S. At approximately 7:05 p.m. on May 21, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect was allegedly removing items from the balcony of a residential building. Responding officers located the suspect at the scene and took him into custody without incident. During the course of the investigation, credit cards, mail and personal items not belonging to the suspect were recovered. [The suspect], 39, of Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry, Petit Larceny, Mail Theft and Credit Card Theft.
