America’s most popular celebrities are better able to get things done than Congress.

Congress is useless, the shutdown was fruitless, and nonagenarian Sen. Chuck Grassley doesn’t want to process President Trump’s nominees. However, two A-list celebrities recently showed that they are effective political operators who put Congress to shame, and it’s not just because of their money. Pop star Nicki Minaj has become a major lobbying voice for persecuted Christians in Nigeria and around the world, and has helped make more progress in defending them than one member of Congress.

Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God.

No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.

In November, Minaj gave a speech at the United Nations calling on world leaders to help protect Christians. Her speech was better than most that get delivered on the House and Senate floors.

“I stand here as a proud New Yorker with a deep sense of gratitude that we live in a country where we can freely and safely worship God regardless of one’s creed, background, or politics,” she said. “No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion, like I recently stated on social media. And we don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”

Minaj has also attacked Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his comment about wanting to “see more” trans kids.
