The suspected shooter in the attack on two National Guard members in D.C. faces new charges that include murder in the first degree, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced Friday, following news that Guard member Sarah Beckstrom had died.
“In light of Beckstrom’s death, the charge upgrades to murder in the first degree,” Pirro’s office said in a statement.
Beckstrom, 20, and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, were critically wounded in what officials called a targeted attack. Wolfe remains in the hospital and has undergone surgery. The office of West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R) said Friday that Wolfe “remains in very critical condition.”
Pirro told Fox News on Friday morning that there would also be “many more charges to come,” without elaborating on what they might be.
