Weather-tested South San prepares for district opener against John Jay

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Campaign organizations and leaders in the Democratic Party filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Wednesday over allegedly threatening to deploy federal troops to polling sites during the midterm elections.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. It accuses the Trump administration law enforcement of demonstrating “by word and deed that they have established a policy of permitting their armed officers to appear at active polling sites,” according to The Hill newspaper.

The Trump administration hasn’t ruled out the possibility of sending troops to the polls but says it doesn’t have formal plans to do it.

Earlier this month Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said federal agents would only be at polling places if there was a threat or to serve a warrant.

When Attorney General Todd Blanche was getting confirmed, Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar asked him if he would commit to not sending armed agents to polling sites.

“I will commit to following the law,” he answered her. “Of course.”

Klobuchar said that Americans are concerned about armed agents at polling stations.

“I’m not aware of armed agents being at polling places so I’m not aware of that concern,” Blanche said. “But I will tell you [that] we will follow the law, Senator.”
