Driver dies weeks after crash in Fairfax County, police believe alcohol was factor

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Fairfax County detectives are investigating after a man who was allegedly driving drunk died weeks after a crash in Clifton.

On Oct. 4, around 3:45 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at Clifton and Moore Road.

Following their investigation, Fairfax County officers determined that the driver of a 2008 Ford Ranger was traveling on Moore Road when he attempted to cross Clifton Road. Police said the driver, identified as Peter Kavaljian, 65, failed to stop, and his pickup truck was struck by a Ford Fusion.

Kavaljian was initially taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Their investigation also determined that alcohol was a factor in the collision, and Kavaljian was issued a summons for a DWI.

However, more than two weeks later, on Oct. 21, detectives were notified that Kavaljian died from his injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 703-280-0543.
