George Washington University safe after false report of bomb

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A bomb threat at George Washington University was determined to be a false alarm on Monday, according to school officials.

D.C. police informed the university that someone reported a bomb in District House, a student dormitory. The university evacuated the building and advised community members to avoid the area. After a thorough investigation, police determined there was no evidence of a bomb.

The university sent out a letter to the community that reads as follows.

On Monday, the university received a report from MPD that an individual called 911 and said there was a bomb in District House. Upon receipt of this information, the university immediately issued a GW Alert requesting that individuals inside the building evacuate and community members avoid the area. MPD immediately responded to thoroughly investigate the building and did not find any evidence of a bomb. The building is now safe for reentry.

The GW Police Department, safety and student affairs teams provided support throughout the incident and the university shared updates and guidance to the university community via GW Alerts.

The university is secure. No reports of an arrest has been released.
