Good 3rd Wednesday of the Month! YES, this is DailyKos, YES this is the Good News Round Up, and YES, I am your once-a-month host, playing with all the knobs, dials, levers, and stretchy gizmos in the Round Up Control Room. But you don’t want that, you want the Breakfast Brunch, here among all the Good News seekers (“good newsers”….eliding (!) into “Gnusies.”) Beverages hot and cold are always on tap, correct and in fashion at any hour, day or night. The 24 hour Steam Table crew cooks up food for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and plates it with taste, tastiness, even taste-osity, on tasteful plates that look amazingly like the ones at your house. They go with the aromas from griddle, toaster, oven and microwave that have a strong resemblance to the foods you make among your own appliances and pans. Home cooking, even here on the Internet!

The Breakfast Brunch ALSO features WiFi and a reading locale: the Lambasting Loathsome Lawyers and their MAGA Clients Lounge. Settle in to an inviting recliner, rocker, sofa, wingback or even one of those hammocks on the Lovely Lanai and have a read, give a rec, drop a comment, add a factoid or a correction or a clarification. Start your own digression, click on a click-link, or chuckle over the latest laughable “news” item coming out of the Badministration. Everyone else here will do likewise and all these interchanges are the acts and ideas that make this corner of the Internet worth visiting.

Oh, and as my custom, you’ll find not only fresh Good News here, but Good News for the Ages….or at least Good News and its cousin, Goofy News, FROM the ages and pages of History that have made their mark on June 17ths. So you’ll find those moments here this morning as well.

(Now, as promised the other day, that I would put up something about this frequently……)

In 1864 31 million Americans were at open war with each other, complete with an alternate, rival national government. There were invasions, a naval blockade, spies, cavalry raiding. Battles that had casualties in the thousands. And there were tens of thousands of enslaved people making a run for freedom, or cheering welcome to the Boys in Blue.

15 million of those Americans were men. 2.5 million of them were in uniform for just a few weeks all the way to the end of 4 bloody years. Over 900,000 would be killed, wounded or captured.

And in November, 1864, there was an ELECTION! Presidential. Congressional. Governors, Legislators, Mayors. Martial Law was not even considered. And yet now these “wretched refuse of the teeming shore” (from Miller to Vance, from Vought to Musk, from Mullins to Heather Honey (a real name)) want to mess with our elections????

What we call modern life would not be possible without the work, discoveries and inventions of countless brainy, clever, shrewd and, yes, occasionally lucky people over the years. Given where we are and what we are facing in the years soon to come, it is a GOOD THING they are still at it.
