A growing list of Ohio politicians are donating campaign contributions they received from Les Wexner in the lead-up to the billionaire retail mogul's Congressional deposition about his connections with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Ohio's two GOP senators and the mayor of Columbus are not among them.
Epstein was Wexner's financial advisor, but Wexner said he broke ties with him in 2007. Wexner has never been charged in relation to the Epstein case.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) (R) talks with Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) as they arrive for a hearing with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Feb. 11, 2026 in Washington, DC.
Documents related to Epstein released in recent months by the Department of Justice mention Wexner thousands of times, including FBI documents that labeled Wexner as a possible "co-conspirator." These revelations have moved several politicians to spurn Wexner's past generosity. This includes Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin, multiple Franklin County officeholders, two state senators and U.S. Reps. Joyce Beatty and Mike Carey.
Carey, R-Columbus, said "disturbing details" have emerged regarding Wexner's ties to Epstein, so he plans to donate his past campaign contributions from Wexner.
"After I voted to release the entirety of the Epstein files, disturbing details emerged regarding Les Wexner’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein," Carey said. "Epstein was a profoundly evil man whose crimes destroyed countless innocent lives. In light of those revelations, I am donating all campaign contributions from the Wexners to organizations aimed at preventing human trafficking and supporting victims."
A spokesperson for Wexner declined to comment for this story.
The Columbus Dispatch, part of the USA TODAY Network, asked what other elected officials representing Columbus are doing with their past contributions from Les and Abigail Wexner. The Dispatch looked at available campaign finance records for past donations from the couple but did not include other relatives.
Abigail Wexner also appears in the Epstein files but was never mentioned as a co-conspirator. Multiple local leaders are drawing a distinction and giving away their contributions from Les Wexner while keeping contributions from Abigail Wexner.
