Honda is recalling more than 880,000 vehicles due to a critical safety defect that could lead to drivers losing control.

The issue, which centres on potential failure of rear suspension components, significantly increases the risk of a crash or injury.

The recall by American Honda Motor Co. affects 880,514 vehicles, including certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX models.

These vehicles were originally sold in: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

The problem stems from the rear subframe, where corrosion at the suspension mounting points can compromise the integrity of the rear suspension, potentially causing it to fail.

Honda estimates that just 1% of the vehicles listed have the defect.

Honda has had no warranty claims and no reports of an injury or death related to the problem.
