It was Visibility on the dancefloor. Staying In San Fran, Patrick Cowley pushed Electronic music into bold new territory, long before EDM. Queer clubs were already living the future.
Heading south now, to LA we run into Donna Summer and Georgio Moroder feeling the Love.
Chicago, Illinois, the home of IML, Xpansions encourage us to Move Our Bodies. House music had escaped warehouses and expanded dance music forever, onto a global scene.
Adding a bit of soul to the mix, we head to Detroit Michigan, where Inner city brings us the Good Life. We knew we all belonged here.
It’s time to head to the Big Apple, New York, New York. Madonna has become mother and taught all our boys (And girls) to Vogue, and the ballroom culture exploded onto the scene.
Still in New York, we come across Grace Jones, who never fit into anyone elses box. Model, Musician, provocateur and icon, she made being different POWERFUL.
Finally leaving New York, we get to Washington DC where Janet Jackson has fully embraced her Queer Audience, where Rhythm Nation imagined a world built on inclusion, unity and Community.
Time to finish our road trip of Queer America by getting on down to Atlanta where they have become a powerhouse of modern black queer culture. Lil Nas X told us not to hide, but to come out into the open.

From San Francisco to New York, via Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Atlanta… Different cities, different sounds but the same JOY.
