Canadians who have booked tickets to fly south in the coming days may experience the ripple effects of the U.S. government shutdown on their travel plans.

The Federal Aviation Administration said, to maintain safety standards, flights in the U.S. would be reduced at 40 high-volume airports by 4% beginning Friday and reach 10% by mid-November.

“This order reduces or temporarily prohibits certain operations in the navigable airspace to ensure the safety of aircraft and the efficiency of the National Airspace System,” the emergency order said.

The reductions begin each day at 6 a.m. and end at 10 p.m. local time at the affected airports.
