Donald Trump aired his frustrations with stalled efforts to end the war with Iran on Wednesday, threatening that the regime “better get smart soon” amid reports Washington is preparing for an extended blockade.
Writing on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, the president shared an image of himself standing before AI-generated explosions in Iran, captioned “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”
He wrote: “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon! President DJT”
US officials said Trump was unhappy with Iran's most recent offer for resolving the two-month war, which would set aside discussion of its nuclear programme until the conflict was concluded and shipping disputes resolved.
Insiders told the Wall Street Journal that the president believes that keeping the conflict in the current state of limbo will hurt the regime’s finances and weaken its leverage in negotiations, estimated to be costing Tehran around $435m per day.
Officials said the president was unwilling to back down on demands that Iran suspend its nuclear enrichment, after Iran reportedly offered a peace proposal looking to decouple nuclear talks from the wider effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war.
