ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 15, 2026 /Christian Newswire/ — The Rev. Jonathan Adams, rector of Trinity Episcopal in Upperville, Va., has reportedly resigned. The news follows allegations of pedophilia-related grooming activity at the church, details of which are omitted from this press release in order to protect third parties from potential liability.
Neither the church’s vestry, nor the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, has made a formal announcement.
Trinity is the primary Episcopal church serving Virginia’s hunt country, and is the church of various luminaries, including the late Paul and Bunny Mellon.
“We are deeply concerned about the welfare of this parish, and call upon the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and the church’s vestry to take immediate steps to care for those hurt by the recent allegations,” said Anglican Watch official Eric Bonetti. “Treating the various issues at the church as somehow confidential does a grave disservice to the Body of Christ, and serves only to cause lasting harm to the parish.”
Founded in 2015, Anglican Watch is the unofficial watchdog of the Episcopal Church. The organization addresses both sexual and non-sexual abuse in the Episcopal Church and other faith communities.
