The mother of former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has dismissed long-running rumors of an affair between her daughter and longtime Trump ally Corey Lewandowski, while simultaneously revealing new details about the breakdown of Noem’s 34-year marriage.

In an interview with the Daily Mail published Friday, Corinne Arnold called allegations linking her daughter and Lewandowski a "bunch of crap" and insisted Noem "would never do that."

"Kristi would never do that," Arnold said. "That's not how I brought my kids up."

The comments came as Arnold disclosed that Noem told her she planned to divorce her husband, Bryon Noem, following revelations about his alleged online activity. Arnold said the conversation took place during a family birthday gathering in South Dakota in late spring, which was attended by relatives and grandchildren.

According to Arnold, she asked her daughter whether she and Bryon might reconcile.

"And she said: 'No. No. We're going to get a divorce,'" Arnold told the Daily Mail.

The interview offers one of the most detailed public accounts from a close family member regarding the collapse of the Noems' marriage, while pushing back against speculation that reports linking Kristi Noem to Lewandowski played a role in the split.

Arnold told the Daily Mail that she and other family members had anticipated the divorce before Noem formally shared her decision.

"It has been difficult, but we knew this was coming, that they were going to get divorced," Arnold said.
