The American Federation of Government Employees has been rocked by missed paychecks and furloughs as the shutdown reaches Day 27.

The country’s largest federal employee union is urging lawmakers to end the government shutdown.

Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said Monday that the funding lapse, now in its 27th day, is harming workers and their families as well as the agencies that keep the nation running. AFGE represents more than 800,000 workers for federal agencies and the District of Columbia.

Union members have felt the brunt of the shutdown so far, as they miss paychecks and thousands of staff are sent home on furloughs.

“It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today,” Kelley said in a statement. “No half measures, and no gamesmanship. Put every single federal worker back on the job with full back pay — today.”
