Man charged with murder in Southeast DC shooting

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Following a months-long investigation, police announced Friday that a man is now facing a murder charge in connection with a Southeast D.C. shooting.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said 32-year-old Clarence Edward Jones, Jr., was charged with the murder of 29-year-old Benjamin Mingo.

Jones’s charges stemmed from a shooting that broke out on March 27, just before 3:34 p.m. in the 3800 block of 1st Street. There, first responders located Mingo suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics tried to save him, but he died at the scene.

Months later, on Oct. 23, MPD said Jones was taken into custody in connection with the homicide investigation.
