A child was rescued after being trapped when a tree crashed into his Maryland home during a storm

The storm caused widespread damage, including flooding, road closures and power outages across the region

A child was rescued early in the morning on Friday, Sept. 4, after a storm left widespread damage throughout the Maryland area.

According to Fox 5, an emergency was reported around 12:04 a.m. local time in the 300 block of Wren Court in Kettering, Md..

In a post shared to X, Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department reported that a “juvenile male” was trapped inside a single-family home after a tree crashed into the building.

Prince George’s County Fire and EMS crews responded to the scene and quickly got the child out. He was then transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. He’s now resting at a relative’s home.

The 12-year-old boy’s father, Andrew Carter, told ABC affiliate WJLA that a beam had pinned his son to his bed. Carter attempted to free his son, but said he felt “helpless” as he waited for help to arrive. Still, he continued to talk to his son the whole time in hopes of keeping him calm.

Carter added that he, his wife and their younger son were all able to escape their home safely.

Photos released showed a large tree lying across the home, completely uprooted. The tree could be seen hitting the house, causing damage to the roof.
