FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — Fairfax County Police released dash camera video Thursday after a 62-year-old woman was run over by an officer and died.

That officer was racing to the scene after a hit-and-run driver in Hybla Valley at Richmond Highway and Belford Drive had already struck the victim.

Late Thursday, officers finally located the Black Mercedes that had first hit Trina Jones.

Lawyers representing Jones' family said her injuries when she was first hit were non-life-threatening.

"The family was able to see the video earlier," said David Haynes of the Cochran Law Firm. "It was very upsetting. Of course they continue to grieve we’re at the 30-day mark here, which is the county’s point to release the video. We’ll be doing our own investigation, but frankly, the video tells the story of preventable loss by those who are supposed to protect us."

Chief Kevin Davis said his officer--Jalin Phillips--is distraught over what happened and remains on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

In the dash camera video released Thursday, you hear Phillips say 'Please tell me I didn't just run her over.'

"Certainly for Trina Jones, that outcome is not an outcome anyone intended to include our officer, who is a stellar young officer assigned to the Mount Vernon District. It’s a traumatic incident for him," Davis said.

No lawsuit has been filed just yet by the Jones family.
