FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A vehicle driver will not face charges after a crash in Fairfax County, Virginia, that killed a 9-year-old boy on Thursday, according to police.

Fairfax County police on Friday shared several new details about the crash in the 3000 block of Madden Court, near Sully Square, that involved a 9-year-old on an electric scooter and a 2012 Honda Odyssey.

The Odyssey was making a left turn from Highland Mews Court onto Madden Court when the boy's electric vehicle struck the rear of the minivan in the parking lot at around 5:30 p.m., according to Captain Harold Morris, the assistant commander of the Fairfax County Police Department's traffic division.

The boy was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver, a woman, remained on scene.

The speed of the scooter and type of scooter remain under investigation, officials said. Authorities said the driver did not appear to be driving recklessly during the incident.
