Residents of a Virginia suburb are up in arms after one of their neighbors began construction of a three-story addition to their house that some have deemed an eyesore.

A family on Fairfax's Marble Lane decided to build the tall, townhouse-like structure to house three generations that will all live together, according to locals.

Some have no issue with the building, but others, such as Courtney Leonard, who lives right next to the addition, are outraged - not at the family building the structure, but at the county for allowing it to happen.

Leonard told the Daily Mail: 'I had been in communication with the county since the beginning of October voicing my concerns about the addition, and I want to reiterate that our view is that the onus is on the county for allowing it to get this far.'

She explained that zoning in her area is called a 'cluster zone,' which allows very large units to be built on smaller lots.

The disgruntled neighbor added that it was a 'shock' and 'a concern for everyone in our neighborhood' that the family was able to get their renovation plans passed and approved by the county.

She also explained that she was concerned about the construction reducing the light reaching her house, impacting the electricity yield from her solar panels, as well as the ability of her neighbors to see over her privacy fence from the higher stories and the potential impact all this could have on her property value.

'When I decide to sell my house, how much of the buyer-portion did I just cut out, just knowing that they have to live next to that?' Leonard said.
