WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — One person was seriously hurt in a Northwest D.C. apartment fire on Sunday, according to DC Fire and EMS.

In a post to the X platform, firefighters responded to reports of a fire around 3:30 p.m., when smoke was seen coming from a three-story apartment building in the 600 block of Kennedy Street NW.

There, firefighters located the fire in the apartment’s basement and rescued a person who was trapped inside. They were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, firefighters added.

An additional firetruck was requested, and the flames were extinguished.
