Police issue Silver Alert in search for man reported missing from Shelbyville

Police in Shelby County have issued a Silver Alert in the search for a missing man.

The Shelbyville Police Department says they are looking for Lyle Stanton, 61.

Stanton is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 185 pounds and has gray hair with hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a Washington DC hoodie,  a white or black t-shirt and blue jeans.

Stanton is missing from Shelbyville and was last seen on Tuesday March 3, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Police said he is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance. If you have information, you're asked to call Shelbyville Police at 317-392-5108 or 911.

There are specific standards a person's disappearance must meet in order for police to declare an Amber Alert or a Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are believed to have been abducted and in danger. Police also need to have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.

Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common for missing people. It was not until last year when the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.

In both situations, these alerts must be issued by police.

Stanton was limited to 77 games last season due to tennis elbow in both arms.
