FAIRFAX, Va. (7News) — Police shot and injured a person armed with a knife at a Fairfax, Virginia Wawa early Saturday morning, according to local authorities.

The City of Fairfax Police Department stated that when officers arrived at 9700 Fairfax Boulevard around midnight, the individual was standing inside the front entrance holding a knife.

After ignoring commands to drop the weapon, the person advanced toward the officers, prompting them to fire.

The individual was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The officer who fired their weapon has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
