Public urged to turn out for Stars & Stripes homecoming Nov. 1
ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) - A welcome home celebration for the 2025 Stars & Stripes “Flight of Champions” is set for Saturday, Nov. 1. The event honors about 180 Vietnam and Vietnam-era Wisconsin veterans with a one-day, all expenses paid trip to Washington, DC. There are two flights, one out of Green Bay’s airport, another out of Milwaukee. Organizers are urging everyone to join them at the airports in welcoming home the veterans and give them the homecoming they might not have gotten back when they served. “It is something that they will not forget for the rest of their lives. So many, especially the Vietnam veterans, either had no welcome home or they might’ve had a really bad experience in welcoming them home,” Paula Nelson of Stars & Stripes Honor Flights said. “And that’s what the welcome home is about, is just letting them know 50 years later, 50 years plus later after Vietnam, that their service really did matter and that we appreciate that,” she continued. The Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers are Bucks are teaming up to make the trip extra special. To cap off the day, the concourse at Green Bay Austin Straubel will open at 6 p.m. on Nov. 1, with the Flight of Champions expected to arrive around 7:30.
