Shooting in Southeast DC leads to barricade situation

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Police in the District are investigating after a shooting led to a barricade situation in Southeast on Monday morning.

Details are limited; however, the Metropolitan Police Department told DC News Now that the shooting broke out in the 4900 block of Ayers Place around 7:47 a.m. on Oct. 27.

Once on the scene, officers found a man who had been shot. Police added that he was conscious and breathing and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

About an hour later, around 8;47 a.m., D.C. police announced that officers were on the scene of a barricade incident on A Street with the suspect. This is just a block away from the crime scene.

As of Monday morning, the following roads were closed:

49th Street between East Capitol Street, SE and A Street, SE

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and if the suspect and victim knew each other.
