Virginia’s Governor talks budget, reflects on time in office

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Speaking on 12 News Midday, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is looking ahead to new horizons while also reflecting on his time in office.

“It is my last moment I think to direct the policy going forward of the commonwealth. And this budget rests on the huge success we’ve had over the last four years,” said Gov. Glenn Youngkin, (R) Virginia.

This week, Youngkin will present changes to the current state budget and a brand new one for the incoming governor.

“And it doesn’t require any tax increase because we’ve got plenty of resources. In fact, we can offer additional tax relief,” said Gov. Youngkin.

He’s hopeful that when Democrats take over in the new year, they will use his plan as a blueprint or at least keep a few aspects of it.

“To go against that wouldn’t make any sense at all. And therefore I hope that they don’t just tear it up. And I hope that they continue to invest into shovel-ready sites,” said Gov. Youngkin.

The term-limited governor is also not shy about touting his accomplishments.

“We’ve seen a record number of commitments from companies to expand here. Over $150 billion of investments. That’s more than the last six administrations combined,” said Gov. Youngkin.

The governor’s one regret, not getting that Northern Virginia stadium deal across the finish line.

It was derailed by state democrats during budget negotiations.
