WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Trump is set to make history on Monday, hosting Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa at the White House.
It will mark the first time a Syrian president has been inside the Oval Office. President al-Sharaa is expected to sign an agreement during that visit committing to fight ISIS.
That’s just the start of a busy week in Washington, with the Supreme Court set to hear oral arguments in two key cases.
On Monday, they’ll take up ‘Landor v. Louisiana Department of Corrections and Public Safety’, which tackles prisoners’ rights and asks whether someone can sue an individual government official for violations of the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.
Then on Wednesday, justices will hear ‘Fernandez v. United States’, which focuses on compassionate release and what’s considered “extraordinary and compelling circumstances”.
On the Hill, Senators continue to negotiate on deals to reopen the government after working through the weekend, while the House remains out of session. Monday marks 41 days since the federal shutdown began.
